Assignment 1 Part 1

We were required to produce a 5 paragraph 600-1000 word compare and contrast essay on two television genres, with proper referencing and citations. I decided to compare the talk shows, "The Jerry Springer Show" and "Tonight Show with Jay Leno".

Reflection

            The Learning outcomes from this project are to demonstrate the ability to understand and interpret a chosen television series genre and demonstrate the ability to compare and contrast, analyze and synthesize information from two television series in an essay and explain them clearly and logically. Also to communicate relevant ideas clear, logically and appropriate academic English. The objectives of this assignment were to enable us to understand the concept of a television genre in order to produce a 5-paragraph compare and contrast essay of the chosen television genre. It was also to enable us to cite references according to the APA citation method accurately and effectively.

            Through this assignment, I was able to understand the television genre of talks shows even more. I was able to able my data gathering and analyzing skills through this assignment. This assignment also helped me to improve my academic English. Through this assignment, I was able to understand the development methods for a compare and contrast essay even better.

Assignment 1 Part 2

As a pair, we were required to produce an 800 to 1000-word essay on two different paintings exhibited in the galleries chosen for us. We were given the exhibition "Figure Out" at the PETRONAS Art Gallery. We were to compare and contrast these paintings based on the elements and principles of design as well as the background of the artist.

Reflection

 The intended learning outcomes of this assignment were to enable us to demonstrate the ability to understand and interpret a painting as well as to demonstrate the ability to compare and contrast, analyze and synthesize information about the chosen paintings in a longer essay and explain them clearly and logically. Besides that, it was also to enable us to communicate our ideas in a clear, logical and appropriate academic English. The objectives of this assignment were for us to follow a structured method of critiquing an artwork in order to discover its substance and meaning.

This assignment was an eye opening experience for me. Through this assignment, I was able to describe, analyze, interpret and judge the artworks accordingly. My academic English was further improved as I had to write a clear and logical compare and contrast essay based of the artworks. My understanding of the elements and principles of design were also improved, as I had to do thorough research on them in order to carry out this assignment.

Assignment 2

We were required to produce a 2500 to 3000 word research paper based on two trades and/or businesses of the same type in Klang. These businesses had to be more than 15 years old. In order to conduct this research, we had to derive some of our information based on primary sources as well as secondary sources. We decided to focus our research on Indian Textile shops in Klang and Petaling Jaya.

Reflection

            The intended learning outcomes of this assignment were for us to identify the key issues in the question and explain them clearly and logically while demonstrating the ability to prepare questionnaires and conduct interviews in order to obtain information on the chosen topic. Another outcome was for us to demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize information and compile them in an organized research report as well as to communicate the relevant ideas and analysis in clear, logical and appropriate academic English. The final outcome was for us to select and present the information clearly and appropriately to one's target audience. 

            This assignment enabled me to use the appropriate methodology in obtaining primary and secondary information related to the chosen topic. Through the interviews, I was able to understand how each and every store ran and this, in turn, enabled me to highlight the similarities and differences between the shops. I was also able to understand the basic steps involved in preparing an academic research report while applying the APA style citation and references accurately and effectively in this report. This research report helped me to improve my organizational skills in preparing a report.
